My Summer Skin Edit

The SkinCeuticals routine I come back to every summer

SkinCeuticals summer skincare routine

Summer is when my skin takes the most abuse — more sun, more sweat, more time outside. Here are the five products I actually trust to protect it, and the real reason each one earns a place on my shelf.

A quick note: I'm not a dermatologist, just someone who's done a lot of reading and trial and error. Patch test, introduce actives slowly, and check with a pro if you're pregnant, nursing, or on prescription treatments.

Protect in the morning, correct at night

Most of what visibly ages our skin — fine lines, dark spots, loss of firmness — traces back to environmental damage. Sunlight, pollution, even the exhaust from a busy street generate free radicals: unstable molecules that break down collagen and trigger pigment.

So the logic of a good routine is simple. Defend against that damage during the day, and repair what slips through at night. Every product below does one of those two jobs — here's the order I use them in.

SkinCeuticals LHA Cleanser Gel
Step 01

LHA Cleanser Gel

Cleanse

A serum only works as well as the skin underneath it, and in summer my pores get congested fast. This gel is built around a 12% blend of lipo-hydroxy acid (LHA), glycolic acid, and salicylic acid — three exfoliating acids working at different depths.

Here's why that mix is smart: salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it gets into the pore to clear what causes breakouts. Glycolic acid sweeps dead cells off the surface that make skin look dull. And LHA exfoliates in a gentler, more even, cell-by-cell way, with anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. Glycerin keeps it from stripping your skin dry.

I use it twice a day, morning and night — it's gentle enough that it never leaves my skin tight, and it's the reset my skin needs when the seasons change.

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic
Step 02

C E Ferulic

Antioxidant · Protect

If I could keep only one product from this whole lineup, it'd be this. C E Ferulic basically defined the modern vitamin C category, and it's the "protect" half of my routine.

The formula pairs 15% pure vitamin C, 1% vitamin E, and 0.5% ferulic acid — and the magic is how they work together. Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant but unstable alone; vitamin E supports it and replenishes the skin barrier; ferulic acid stabilizes the whole thing and doubles the antioxidant punch. It's clinically shown to cut combined oxidative damage from UV, ozone, and pollution by up to 41%.

In plain terms, it's a daily shield against exactly what summer throws at your skin, and over time it helps with brightness, firmness, and fine lines. I press 4–5 drops onto clean, dry skin every morning, before my sunscreen — they're a team. (A heads-up: the serum can range from clear to amber, and that's completely normal.)

SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier Multi-Glycan
Step 03

Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier Multi-Glycan

Hydrate & Plump

This is the step that gives skin that fresh, bouncy, well-rested look — exactly what I'm after when I've been between sun and air conditioning all day.

What's clever is that it doesn't just sit on top as surface moisture. It's built on 1.3% pure hyaluronic acid in three molecular weights, 12% Proxylane, and a post-biotic ferment, all designed to boost your skin's own hyaluronic acid levels — by around 30%. Because our natural HA and other glycans decline with age, that internal boost is what plumps, defines contours, and softens fine lines rather than just dampening the surface. Hydration holds for up to 24 hours.

I warm a few drops between my hands and press it in, working from the center of my face outward.

SkinCeuticals P-TIOX
Step 04

P-TIOX

Smooth Expression Lines

This is the newest addition to my routine and the one people ask me about most, because it's doing something genuinely different. P-TIOX is a peptide serum inspired by the effect of neurotoxin injections — think of it as the topical, needle-free cousin of a wrinkle relaxer.

It's powered by an advanced peptide complex that softens the expression lines we make from repeated movement — the 11s between the brows, forehead lines, crow's feet, lines around the mouth. Those peptides are amplified by 5% PHA for texture, 5% niacinamide to even tone and strengthen the barrier, and 1% laminaria extract for hydration. The brand says it targets nine types of expression lines and reveals a "glass skin" radiance in about a week.

To be clear-eyed: a topical peptide isn't as powerful as an actual injection, and it isn't meant to be. But as a non-invasive way to soften fine lines and get that smooth, glassy finish — on its own or alongside other treatments — it's a step I look forward to. Lightweight, layers easily, morning and night.

The Non-Negotiable

If you take one thing from this post, let it be this: the sunscreen is the whole point. Every antioxidant, peptide, and hydrator above is playing defense, and sunscreen is the wall they stand behind. Skip it in summer and you undo everything else.

What I love is that it multitasks. Beyond broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, it's formulated with 1% tranexamic acid, 2% niacinamide, and 0.3% phenylethyl resorcinol — a trio that works on existing discoloration while helping prevent new UV-induced dark spots. So it protects against tomorrow's damage and corrects yesterday's. It also has 7% glycerin for hydration (I often skip a separate moisturizer with it) and a touch of mica for instant, subtle brightness — no white cast.

I apply it generously as the last step every morning.

The full flow

Morning

  1. LHA Cleanser
  2. C E Ferulic
  3. HA Intensifier
  4. P-TIOX
  5. Daily Brightening UV Defense SPF 30

Evening

  1. LHA Cleanser
  2. P-TIOX
  3. HA Intensifier

You don't have to start with all five. If you're building from scratch, I'd begin with sunscreen and C E Ferulic — the protect-and-defend core — and add the rest as your skin (and budget) allow. Good skincare is a long game: consistency beats intensity every time.
